BFA Show is Up and ER's show was Awesome

Finally I am almost ready to graduate with a bachelors of fine art. More important than walking in a commencement cereomony for an artist is the unveiling of the product of many years of hard work. Some of my work is on display at the BFA 2010 show at UVU's Woodbury Art Museum which is located at the University Mall in Orem, Utah.

Thanks to all who attended the opening reception, we had a great turnout. UVU Review covered the show in an article this week.

Many thanks to all who helped and participated with the ER show at Velour. If you didn't know they are my favorite, used to be local band, who moved to L.A. once known as Elizabethan Report. If you missed the show, BYU's Daily Universe summed it up pretty well in an article last week. The band decided to mix things up a bit and invited me to do some live interpretive art work as they played. I also displayed the individual pieces I created for their songs last summer as a part of receiving a scholarly research grant from UVU. Chris Juber edited video of the art making to the length of several songs and those videos were also played at the concert.

If anyone was able to take pictures at either event, please send them to me. The above picture with Johnny and Spencer (ER's guitarist) is the only proof I have of that weekend because I was too busy talking and drawing to take pictures.

Seeing Inside Out

Seeing Inside Out is still on display at Terra Nova until Feb. 26. For those of you who don't live in Provo to see it first hand follow the Terra Nova link and click on exhibits. If you still can't get enough, you can download a desktop calendar with my art on it, just click on calendars.

Thank you to all who have been coming to my shows and supporting the things we do at UVU's Woodbury Art Museum. My BFA show is coming up on March 29, 2010 with all new work. A few more things are in the works as well. So check back for more details.

Make Your Own Hand Bound Journal

Art Journal/ Bookbinding Workshop taught by Pamela Barrios

SATURDAY FEBRUARY 6, 9am-1pm

Make your own art journal or book as a gift for a friend in time for Valentine’s Day.

This simple non-adhesive book structure shown above is based on the historical “limp vellum”

binding. Class members will be using a heavy-weight, but flexible paper instead of vellum. We will sew paper sections onto leather supports. The supports will be used to connect the cover.

The cover can be easily decorated before it is attached. A traditional way of cutting paper will be taught for decorating. Other decorating techniques can be used and will be described.

Sewing experience is helpful but not necessary. Materials will be provided. Participants will be asked to bring small tools, such as pencil, ruler, X-acto knife and scissors.

The class fee covers the rest of the materials and will be $35.00.

Space is limited to 15 students. Enrollment is open to the community members ages 16 and up.

Workshop is dependent on enrollment, so sign up today!
